The University of Luzon – College of Accountancy, in partnership with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) – North Luzon Regional Office, successfully conducted another installment of its flagship outreach initiative, FLAMES: Financial Literacy through Accounting, Management, and Economics for Sustainability, on March 23, 2026.

More than a one-time undertaking, FLAMES has become a continuing commitment of the College of Accountancy to extend meaningful education beyond the classroom. The program has served as a platform for promoting financial literacy, responsible citizenship, and sustainable economic development. This year’s seminar further strengthened that mission by equipping youth and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with practical knowledge essential for navigating today’s rapidly evolving financial landscape.

Participants benefited from insightful discussions on Digital Financial Literacy, Frauds and Scams Awareness, BSP Consumer Assistance Mechanism, and Strategic Tax Management. These timely topics empowered attendees to make informed financial decisions, protect themselves from emerging financial threats, understand consumer rights, and develop sound financial management practices.

The success of the program was made possible through the expertise and dedication of its distinguished speakers: Mr. Gomer C. Gomez, RCH, MBA, Bank Officer IV of the BSP North Luzon Regional Office, and Mr. Francis T. Baroma, CPA, MBA, Revenue Officer IV of the Bureau of Internal Revenue RDO 2 – Ilocos Sur. Their valuable insights enriched the learning experience and inspired participants to become financially responsible and economically empowered individuals.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, FLAMES advances SDG 4: Quality Education by equipping youth and community members with essential financial knowledge and skills for informed decision-making, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by promoting financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and economic resilience among individuals and MSMEs. The program also exemplifies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through the strong collaboration between the University of Luzon and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in delivering impactful community-based learning initiatives. Through these collective efforts, FLAMES continues to empower communities and contribute to sustainable and inclusive development.

The University of Luzon extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – North Luzon Regional Office, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the organizers, partner stakeholders, and all participants whose support contributed to the success of this meaningful initiative.

The University of Luzon proudly celebrates a historic milestone as Ms. Ralph Zen F. Francisco, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student from the College of Nursing and Midwifery, became the institution’s first Erasmus+ scholarship beneficiary, embarking on an all-expense-paid international internship in Poland.

This achievement marks a significant step in the University’s commitment to academic excellence, internationalization, and global engagement. More than a personal accomplishment, Ms. Francisco’s selection as an Erasmus+ scholar reflects what can be achieved through talent, perseverance, institutional support, and strong international partnerships. As she embarked on her journey, she carried with her not only the name of the University of Luzon but also the values of compassion, excellence, cultural competence, and service beyond borders. The program provides her with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in an international healthcare setting, broaden her clinical perspective, and deepen her understanding of patient care within a global context.

The University of Luzon likewise expresses its sincere gratitude to the College of Nursing and Midwifery, under the leadership of Dean Dr. Jordan H. Llego, to the program proponent as well, Prof. Angel Reyna Jr., Ma’am Jennie Corpuz, Ma’am Annabelle Cua, Ma’am Tine Bustillo, Ma’am Kinga Makowska, and Ma’am Jelyn Soria, whose guidance, support, and dedication helped make this opportunity possible. Through their collective efforts and the University’s continuous pursuit of international partnerships, mobility programs, and collaborative initiatives, students are provided with transformative learning experiences that foster academic excellence, cultural competence, and professional growth.

Adding to this historic milestone, Ms. Francisco safely arrived in Poland and was warmly welcomed at the airport by Dr. Paweł Gotowiecki, Rector and President of Józef Gołuchowski University. The University of Luzon extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Gotowiecki and the entire Józef Gołuchowski University community for the warm reception and support extended to its student. This meaningful gesture reflects the growing partnership between the two institutions, founded on mutual respect, shared educational goals, and a commitment to international academic exchange.

The University of Luzon proudly congratulates Ms. Ralph Zen F. Francisco on this remarkable achievement and wishes her a meaningful, successful, and enriching international internship experience. As the University’s first Erasmus+ scholarship beneficiary, she has set a significant milestone that reflects the limitless possibilities available to students who pursue excellence with dedication and determination. Her journey serves as an inspiration to fellow students, demonstrating that hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to academic and personal growth can open doors to opportunities on the global stage.

More than an internship opportunity, this experience reflects the University of Luzon’s continuing pursuit of global engagement and educational excellence by providing students with transformative international learning experiences that broaden their horizons, develop cross-cultural competencies, and prepare them to become globally competitive professionals. This initiative also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through meaningful global learning opportunities and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthened international collaborations that promote student mobility, professional growth, and cross-cultural exchange.
