Representatives of the University of Luzon strengthened their knowledge of responsible information management through professional training on data privacy and regulatory compliance. The training featured the “Data Privacy Law Guidelines for Compliance Masterclass,” held on June 26, 2026. The session took place at the Golden Pine Hotel in Baguio City, providing participants with an opportunity to learn more about proper data protection practices.

Representing the University were Dr. Diosdado Caronongan, Dr. Dolores Bustillo, Ms. Rina Cabansag, and Ms. Mariphie Osian. They gained practical insights into privacy compliance requirements, data protection responsibilities, risk management, and ways to safeguard personal information. The masterclass was led by Atty. Randolfo C. Yanza, Founder and President of the Organization of Data Privacy Professionals (ODPP). He discussed the implementation of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and its application in organizational settings.

The learning experience also strengthened their understanding of current data privacy standards and compliance strategies. These lessons can help support informed decisions when handling personal information and improve the University’s information management practices. Continuous professional training allows UL personnel to develop relevant skills and professional competence while responding to changing requirements in information management and security. The knowledge gained from such activities can also support responsible practices across the University’s operations.

Twelve University of Luzon graduates have successfully passed the June 2026 Licensure Examination for Architects (LEA), earning their professional licenses and beginning a new chapter in their careers.

The results recorded a 100% passing rate among the University’s first-time takers, reflecting the preparation, perseverance, and skills developed throughout their education and professional training at UL.

Their performance highlights the value of a strong academic foundation in preparing future professionals for the demands of the architecture profession. The licensure results also reflect the learning and professional competence developed by the graduates throughout their time at the University.

The University of Luzon extends its appreciation to Engr. Geronimo A. Carvajal, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture, for his guidance and leadership. Recognition is likewise given to the faculty members and staff who support students through their academic journey and professional preparation.

Dr. Jordan Llego, Dean of the University of Luzon College of Nursing, has been recognized with the Publication Commendation – Special Award for his contributions to nursing research and scholarly work.

The recognition honors the publication of 10 scholarly works, including one article published in a Q1-ranked international journal. These publications reflect Dr. Llego’s continued work in research and evidence-based practice, contributing to the growing body of knowledge in nursing and healthcare.

The award was conferred by the Filipino Nursing Diaspora Network (FiND Network), Global Society of Philippine Nurse Researchers, Inc. (GSPNRI), and Pacific Nursing Service Organization (PNSO). It was presented during the Nursing Diaspora Network Awards in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Llego received the recognition on May 16, 2026. The award recognizes his sustained scholarly contributions and the value of research in strengthening nursing practice and professional education.

Dr. Llego’s research work also contributes to the University of Luzon’s academic environment by encouraging faculty and students to engage in scholarly inquiry, strengthen their professional competence, and apply research findings to healthcare practice. Excitement and new connections marked the start of a new academic year during the University of Luzon Welcome Assembly 2026 held on June 22-23, 2026.

The gathering welcomed freshmen and transferee students to the University community, giving them an opportunity to meet fellow Luzonians and become familiar with the vibrant school environment. The program featured booths, giveaways, live performances, and engaging learning activities prepared by various SHS and college departments.

Students also enjoyed games facilitated by TNT and College of Business Administration, Hospitality and Tourism Management, adding fun and interaction to the celebration. The program was further energized by the special performance of Ms. Sephy Francisco, Asia’s Trans Dual Diva, and Ms. Aubrey Daniela, who performed together for the UL community during the Day 1 of the event. Their lively presentation added music, entertainment, and excitement to the celebration.

Performances from different departments further brought students together through singing, dancing, spoken poetry, musical presentations, and other activities that highlighted the talents of the UL community. These experiences gave new students a chance to connect with others while gaining a closer look at campus life.

Beyond the festivities, the Welcome Assembly introduced freshmen and transferees to the people, opportunities, and experiences that form part of their journey at the University of Luzon. It also set the tone for a school year shaped by learning, friendship, participation, and personal growth.

Leadership development continues within the University of Luzon ROTC Unit with the promotion of cadet officers who successfully completed the ROTC Summer Camp Training (RSCT) and Advance ROTC Academic Phase Training (ARAPT) Class of 2026.

The training was conducted by the 1st Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army at Camp Lt. Tito B. Abat in Manaoag, Pangasinan. The RSCT Opening Day was held on May 9, 2026, marking the start of weeks of physical, mental, and military instruction.

Following the training, 15 cadets were promoted to 2nd Class Officers, while seven advanced to 3rd Class Officers. Their progression continued beyond the training phase, with the 15 former 2nd Class Officers eventually promoted to 1st Class Cadet Officers and the seven former 3rd Class Officers advancing to 2nd Class Cadet Officers.

Leading the newly promoted First Class Cadet Officers is C/LTC Carl Angelo N. Lomibao, joined by C/MAJ Angelo Paul B. Fernandez, Andrew C. Estrada, Elmer A. Paragas, Fritz Vincent P. The seven newly promoted Second Class Cadet Officers are C/1LT Ryan Anthony I. Esguerra, Mark Russell N. Calicdan, Lister P. Ferreras, Dann Jefferson B. Soriano, King Jhon Kendrick A. Senin, John Lloyd B. Aviles, and Rayven V. Gonzales.

Their continued advancement reflects the value of leadership development, discipline, and active learning in preparing students for greater responsibilities in service.

Three members of the University of Luzon Karate-do Team have earned Black Belt ranks after completing their promotion examinations at the SKIF Philippines 2-Day Gasshuku. Congratulations to University of Luzon Karate-do Team Coach Dan Joseph De Castro and team members Edison V. Jugo and Kendrick C. Ignacio for being promoted to Black Belt in Shotokan Karate-Do.

The two-day training and examination was held on June 6–7, 2026, under the Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation (SKIF) Philippines. The gathering provided participants with intensive training and learning opportunities focused on martial arts techniques, discipline, and physical development.

The promotion examinations were conducted under the guidance of Manabu Murakami, Shuseki Shihan and 8th Dan Chief Instructor of SKIF World. Training under an international instructor gave the UL Karate-do Team members an opportunity to further develop their skills and strengthen their practical training in Shotokan Karate-Do.

Their Black Belt promotion reflects years of dedication, perseverance, discipline, and continuous learning. Through their training, the three UL Karate-do Team members have developed skills that extend beyond martial arts, including focus, determination, self-discipline, and resilience.

Sports and martial arts provide opportunities for physical activity, personal growth, and lifelong learning. Prof. Angel Samson Reyna Jr. represented the University of Luzon in the Philippine Delegation to the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Sustainability Development Congress 2026, bringing the University into an international forum focused on sustainable development and the future of higher education.

The congress was held from June 22 to 25, 2026, in Jakarta, Indonesia. It gathered university leaders, policymakers, researchers, and sustainability advocates from different parts of the world to exchange ideas and share approaches to global challenges.

The Philippine Delegation was led by Dr. Christine N. Ferrer, Director of the International Affairs Service of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Her leadership brought together Philippine higher education representatives for discussions on international cooperation, sustainability, and education.

Representing University of Luzon, Prof. Reyna took part in discussions that explored the role of higher education in addressing global concerns. His participation also provided an opportunity for UL to share in conversations on sustainable development, international academic engagement, and educational strategies that can create meaningful impact.

A significant step in professional education was achieved by Justine Margarette C. Calimoso, an incoming fourth-year Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student of the University of Luzon, who completed a 200-hour clinical internship at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH).

Her internship began in April and was completed on June 19, 2026, marking the first time a BA Psychology student from the University of Luzon has completed clinical internship training at the country’s premier government mental health institution.

The experience gave Calimoso practical training in clinical psychology and mental health services. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, she gained hands-on experience in initial intake interviews, psychological test administration, report writing, and group activities for patients. These learning activities helped strengthen her professional competence and prepare her for future work in psychology.

Her training also allowed her to work with psychology interns from different universities. The experience encouraged knowledge sharing, new professional connections, and learning from different academic perspectives.

The internship placement and training were supported by Mark Jayson Principe, Psychologist II and Practicum Coordinator, who helped facilitate Calimoso’s clinical training at NCMH.

Practical learning experiences help connect classroom knowledge with professional practice.
